6 thoughts everyone has when they arrive in the door after a festival

Laura Holland

We’ve all been there.

There’s nothing like a festival weekend. The first day tends to have the most buzz, when you’re trying to negotiate with the festival traffic, setting up your sleeping area, figuring out what acts to prioritise and settling in for the weekend ahead.

Come the last day, when you’re ready to go, this seems like a distant memory, when you have to wade through fallen down tents and muddy paths to try and find your car or bus to get home. It’s like the walking dead.

That moment when you get home is sheer bliss and there are a few things that cross your mind when you’re in the midst of that post-festival vibe.

“I cannot wait to shower”

There are no amount of baby wipes, dry shampoo and deodorant that can make you feel any better about not showering for a few days. Stepping into the shower for the first time feels like you haven’t bathed in years. You finally feel right again.

“I cannot wait to put on my PJs”

After the shower comes the inevitable – bra off, PJs on and it doesn’t matter if it’s in the middle of the day. All you want is to get something comfortable and cosy on you. While festival clothing can make you look the part, you’ll be glad to see the back of it. Those wellies won’t see the light of day for another year.

“I need some real food”

So, it’s only been a few days at the festival but you’re already sick to death of chips, pizza and kebabs. Bring on the ‘real food’. There’s nothing like a few spuds and a steak to set you right, or if you’ve got enough energy then a big pot of Spaghetti Bolognese will go down nicely.

“Finally, I can charge my phone properly”

Those charger packs are a godsend when you’re at a festival and your phone dies, but they can only go so far before they too need to be charged. Giving your phone a proper charge is one of the first things you do when you arrive in home. Sure how else are you going to show everyone on social media how much of a good time you had?

“I hope I didn’t make a tit of myself”

With festivals come a few drinks. There can be very long days which leads to plenty of chances that you will do/say something mortifying. It could be as simple as slipping in some mud or dancing like no one is watching, but, either way, the fear is at an all-time high level when you get home and back to reality. The only saving grace is that everyone else is in the exact same position so there’s no point over thinking it.

“I wonder what I left behind”

With the scramble to get ahead of the mass exodus, there’s always a chance that you left something behind. As long as you have your house keys, your phone and wallet you’ll be laughing. Failing that, the Gardaí usually do a round up of all the things they’ve found over the course of the weekend and offer them up for people to claim.
