Bowie’s Producer Opens Up About The Last Year In Touching Facebook Post

David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, has taken on a whole new meaning today.

The 69-year-old icon left the music world in shock as he lost an eighteen month battle with cancer, and died peacefully surrounded by friends and family.

His cancer battle was kept largely private, adding to the shock and heartbreak of his fans, but producer Tony Visconti reminds us that his recent album is his parting gift.

Visconti worked alongside Bowie ever since his 1969 album Space Oddity, and continued to play a large collaborative role throughout his career.

He took to Facebook this morning to share his heartbreak and celebrate the life and work of a legend.

He wrote:

“He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way. His death was no different from his life – a work of Art.

“He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn’t, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry.”
