After much speculation over the fate of planned summer concerts by country music superstar Garth Brooks at Dublin’s Croke Park, it has emerged today that only three of the gigs have been granted permission to go ahead by Dublin City Council.
Despite the fact that five concerts, beginning on Friday July 25th, have sold out, 160,000 tickets of the 400,000 sold now hang in the balance.
The Irish Independent reports that the decision was made this morning. It is as yet unclear what dates are affected and what this will mean for ticket-holders.
The move comes following sustained objections from residents living near the stadium. A written agreement made in 2009 stated that the GAA HQ would stage no more than three concerts each year.
The Indo further reports that the Monday and Tuesday concerts may now be moved to the Aviva, and run over three nights to allow for that stadium’s smaller capacity.
