Broadway Ahoy! Scrubs Musical is in the Works

We could see the musical on Broadway within a few years!

It’s been a few years since we last saw Scrubs on our TV screens but the hit show could be reappearing in a different format very soon under the stage lights!

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he has plans to bring the comedy series to the stage with an original musical.

“We’re negotiating with different theatre groups who will hopefully put up the money for a year to pay the composers to develop [spec songs]” said Lawrence.

“Disney has nicely become a silent partner in giving the rights for us to go shop it.”

The screenwriter ruled out a Scrubs film saying that: “We filmed so many episodes that I feel like it had played its full course”.

“You could argue Veronica Mars got cut short in its lifespan, but for us, I never really saw any life moving past nine years. It’s not really the type of show for a movie.”

He did however confirm that there could be a Broadway show with the next couple of years.

“The most fun thing for a theatre junkie is we’ve already reached the stage that various composers have been submitting songs based on an outline that we put together for the type of stuff we would do.”

“When Zach went over there and did his play All New People, he’d come out at the end and there would be thousands of Scrubs fans. So then we really started taking seriously the idea of Scrubs as a musical. And the only reason I felt like we could entertain this idea is that it’s not going – it’s going back.”

Will some of the original cast appear in the musical? Who knows? But we can’t wait to see what they make of this new adventure.
