Collaborations were definitely on-trend this year!

This Summer Her.ie has teamed up with West Coast Cooler & Vodka to bring you a three part series discussing our favourite fashion, music and partners in crime collaborations.

In the second of this three part series we will be focusing on the greatest music pairings of 2014.

Collaborations were definitely on-trend this year, with many industry legends teaming up with some of the biggest acts in show business at the moment. It was a tough task but we’ve managed to dwindle it down to our seven favourites.

1. Sam Smith and Mary J Blige

Just when we thought Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me‘ couldn’t possibly get any better, this week the singer-songwriter performed it with one of the greatest female vocalists of our time, Mary J Blige.

The pair merged their beautiful voices for one incredible performance on Good Morning America, which undoubtedly resulted in one of the most perfect collaborations of the year.

2. Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers and Daft Punk

This year’s Grammy Awards ceremony witnessed many musical greats pairing up with one another. We couldn’t possibly compile a list of collaborations and leave out this Get Lucky – Le Freak – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Another Star  medley.

Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers joined pails Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk for one interesting mash-up.

The performance was the first time that Daft Punk played a track from their phenomenal album, Random Access Memories, live and Williams looked to be in his element on stage. It seemed that the crowd appreciated the musical mix as much as we did, however we must admit, there is a shocking lack of dancing ability to be witnessed in this clip.

3. Blondie and Arcade Fire

It seems that epic live collaborations were on-trend this year as the pattern continued from the Grammy’s to Coachella.

Debbie Harry joined Arcade Fire to perform her monster hit, ‘Heart of Broken Glass‘ and the band’s single ‘Sprawl‘. We may be a little bias as we do have a lot of love for both acts but this may just be our favourite ever Coachella pairing.

4.  Avicii and Audra Mae

Swedish DJ and producer, Avicii, is renowned for his summer anthems and for another year in a row he has provided us with a catchy melodic earworm.

Addicted To You‘ features the incredible vocals of American folk rock singer-songwriter, Audra Mae. The 30-year-old is signed to an indie label since 2009 and has previously worked with range of music folk from, Flo Rida, Redfoo of LMFAO, Susan Boyle and All American Rejects.

We predict this will be the perfect platform for the Mae to make her big break onto the scene.

5. Kings Of Leon and Chris Martin

Coldplay and Kings Of Leon expressed their love for each other at Radio One’s Big Weekend in Glasgow and posed for a wonderful selfie filled to the brim with creative and musical genius. Chris Martin however didn’t just stop at a photograph and decided to join KOL onstage during their set.

Charismatic frontman, Caleb Followill, welcomed Martin to the stage “I’d like to introduce the second most famous singer here today. He says he isn’t going to sing but we’ll see.” Adamant that he would not be helping with vocals, Martin played guitar before joining in with the final chorus of hit song, ‘Fans’. We can only hope for more of this in the future.

6. Ed Sheeran and Elton John

Two musical legends on one stage makes for great listening…

Ed Sheeran joined the star studded line up for the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) 22nd annual Academy Awards Viewing Party at West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles. Much to guests delight, Ed joined Sir Elton onstage for a beautiful rendition of mega-hit, ‘Candle In The Wind’.

7. Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Michael Jackson’s second posthumous album of previously unreleased songs recently hit the shelves. Xscape, produced by Timbaland features the likes of Mary J.Blige, however it is the Justin Timberlake track that got music fans talking.

The of King of Pop is joined by JT for one of the best tracks on the record, ‘Love Never Felt So Good’. We have no doubt this will become one of the biggest hits of the summer.
