Eddie Vedder has released a cover of John Lennon’s Imagine in order to raise funds for young musicians in Israel and Palestine.

The Pearl Jam frontman debuted his version of the iconic peace anthem during a concert in Portugal in July and announced today that is releasing the track as a single, with all proceeds going towards the Heartbeat: Amplifying Youth Voices charity.

The organisation provides opportunities and spaces for young Israeli and Palestinian musicians to work together, and amplify their voices to influence the world around them.

Vedder was accused of being anti-Israel earlier this summer, after making comments against war during a Pearl Jam gig in London saying “there are people out there who are looking for a reason to kill!”.

He later addressed the criticism in a blog post entitled ‘Imagine That – I’m Still Anti War‘.

The track is available on iTunes here.
