Lily Allen has appealled to Twitter users to stop directing abuse at her, following her announcement as the replacement for indie favourites Two Door Cinema Club at UK festival Latitude.
TDCC were forced to pull out of their headline slot when lead singer Alex Trimble collapsed with chronic stomach pain and Allen announced shortly afterwards on her Twitter page that she would be replacing the band.
However, Latitude plans were less than happy with the switch, saying that “hardly anyone that likes TDCC likes Lily Allen” and sending a barrage of abusive tweets in the Air Balloon singer’s direction.
By this afternoon, the backlash had gotten so bad that the singer was forced to launch an appeal for an end to the criticism, saying that she was “exhausted by the nastiness”.
Sadly @TDCinemaClub have had to pull out of their headline slot at #lattitude festival, I am filling in for them, I hope that’s ok

I understand that you’re disappointed but I don’t think that warrants abuse. They asked, I accepted,I will give it my all, + hope you enjoy.
