Festival hair sorted – standout looks that are really simple

Cathy Donohue

We’ve had a little glimpse of sunshine in recent weeks and now, we’re counting down the days to 2017’s festival season.

The Irish scene is pretty impressive to be fair with Bulmers Forbidden Fruit, Body & Soul, Longitude, Groove Festival and Electric Picnic to name but a few and if the weather holds up, the atmosphere is always fantastic.

‘Festival fashion’ has exploded in recent years but if you’re sick of floral crowns and embroidered denim, there’s a number of other ways you can get festival ready.

Trying a daring new makeup trend or changing your hair up for the occasion is what we’re all about and you’ll find some inspiration below…

Pigtail buns

You cannot go wrong with a simply style like this. Yeah, it might be a little 90s, Princess Leia/B*witched-esque but ultimately it’s fun and that’s exactly the vibe you want. You need your hair to be out of your face and out of the way but in such a style that it stays looking good all day.

Part it down the middle, pop it into two buns, secure with hair ties, blitz with hairspray and you’re good to go. This works better on day-old hair so that there’s a better texture and the hair doesn’t fall out immediately.

Rainbow effect

This summer, in particular, there’s a massive amount of hair products on the market all aimed at helping you transform your look in minutes. You don’t have any of the hassle of the hairdressers and it all washes out of the end of the day.

A number of new hair crayons, sprays and tints have launched recently and we’re currently mad about Joico Instatint, a temporary shimmer spray (€7.95), in every colour from sapphire blue to fiery coral. Penneys’ Mermaid Hair Crayons (€4) are also ideal if you want for quick and easy streaks of colour.

Boho braid

Again, this is a far from a new style but we’re still totally in love with it. The best thing about this look is you can go as detailed or intricate as you want. For a festival, we’re all about the chilled-out vibes so a loose plait is the easiest option. If you want to pretty it up, you can add flowers and/or hair accessories and by the time your look is complete you won’t even have to worry about your outfit…
