Grimes has revealed numerous male music producers have tried to coerce her into sex

Grimes, aka 28-year-old Canadian musical polymath, has long been outspoken about the sexism in the music industry, and recently told Rolling Stone about more of her negative experiences as a female musician and producer.

As a woman who writes, engineers, producers and performs all of her music, Grimes is a one-woman powerhouse who is due to play Coachella in California this weekend.

In the wake of the controversy surrounding Kesha and Dr. Luke, she noted that although she did not know the ins and outs of the case, she did know that the music industry could be described as a ‘hostile environment’ for female artists.

“I don’t know enough about the specifics of that situation because it seems very complicated. But I will say that I’ve been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, “We won’t finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room.” ”

“If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that. I don’t think there are few female producers because women aren’t interested. It’s difficult for women to get in. It’s a pretty hostile environment.”

Grimes also went on to detail more of her musical influences on her most recent album Artangels, and where she wants her music to go next.
