Here We Go Again! Garth Brooks Fans Left In Limbo As Speculation Continues Over Judicial Review

It's understood that Aiken has received "formal assurance" from DCC that they will not contest a judicial review.

Over 400,000 Garth Brooks fans were left in limbo tonight as speculation continued over whether a judicial review into the licensing of Croke Park will go ahead.

Hopes were raised earlier today when it was reported that Aiken Promotion were to take an application to the High Court in an effort to overturn the decision by Dublin City Council to refuse a license for two of the dates.

While the country music star released a lengthy statement earlier this week confirming that the event would not go ahead, Peter Aiken told the Dáil today that he had worked to the “eleventh hour” to find a way to proceed with the concerts.

According to RTE News, Mr Aiken said that he has been met with a “brick wall” but Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna told the committee that the concerts could still go ahead if an uncontested judicial review was held today.

It’s understood that this would be a viable option if a President of the High Court could be found to sit and if there were no objections.

Following claims that Aiken Promotions had received “formal assurance from Dublin City Council that local authority will not contest an application for a judicial review”, speculation was rife that the eagerly-anticipated gigs could still materialise” but no such application has yet been lodged in the courts.

Ticketmaster is due to begin a refund process for ticket holders tomorrow morning and has yet to comment on today’s developments.

Confusion has also arisen over the events leading up to the debacle, with Dublin City Council releasing a statement this evening to say that it had given “no assurances” to Aiken Promotions that all five dates would be approved.

The local authority has also said that it would welcome an “independent, impartial review” of all aspects of the event licencing process pertaining to the concerts.

Clare TD Timmy Dooley also tweeted this evening to say that DCC Manager Owen Keegan has been asked to return to the Dáil later this week.
