Sure he’s as Irish as it gets…

Ed Sheeran has recorded his mammoth hit ‘Thinking Out Loud‘ in Irish for a new CD and we’ll be loving it until we’re seventy. (Sorry, that was pitiful).

The X hitmaker recorded the song exclusively for a music project put together by 2FM‘s Eoghan McDermott, who aired it for the first time on his show at 4.30pm.

‘CEOL 2016 le hEoghan McDermott’ includes tracks in Irish from Ed Sheeran, The Riptide Movement, Delorentos, and more.

“Getting Ed Sheeran to record a bespoke version of one of the biggest songs in the world is incredible,” McDermott said, “the fact he is singing as Gaeilge makes it all the better”.

“Ed and the host of other incredible musicians on our CD shows that the use of the Irish language is being revolutionised at the moment, particularly in music. This album shows that anyone can speak as Gaeilge and that we should all give it a go.”

This is not the first time we’ve noticed Ed’s love for the Irish language. Last year, the Londoner had Foy Vance lyrics inked on his right bicep as gaelige.

“Nuair is gá dom fháil bhaile, is tú mo réalt eolais”, which means, “when I need to get home, you’re my guiding light”.
