Sunday Sessions Live 2 – Artist Profile: Orla Gartland

The FREE gig takes place on October 22nd.

Megan Cassidy

For the last year, we’ve been bringing you some of the best Irish and international acts through our Sunday Sessions.

We put you at the heart of the action with our first ever Sunday Sessions Live at Whelan’s back in July, with The Academic, Little Hours and David Keenan.

The FREE gig went down a storm, so let’s do it again.

Sunday Sessions Live 2 will take place on October 22nd and you can register for your wristband below.

The gig is free of charge but we only have room for 400 people and were massively over-subscribed the last time so we’d move quickly if we were you!

We’ll be joined by Ryan Sheridan, Orla Gartland and Rosie Carney on the night and in the run-up to the event, we’ll be putting a spotlight on each act.

A couple weeks back we profiled the sweet and soulful Rosie Carney.

Second up is… Orla Gartland.

Name: Orla Gartland

Hometown: Dublin

Best known for: Orla quickly made a name for herself with her stunning YouTube covers.

Orla Gartland is proof that “YouTube famous” now quickly translates to “real-life famous”.

The twenty-year-old, who celebrated completing her Leaving Cert with a sell-out tour of the UK and Ireland (as you do), started posting covers to YouTube six years ago, and quickly made waves.

Her ukulele cover of Outkast’s Hey Ya has over 1.4m views and with almost 100k subscribers, she has well and truly made her mark.

The self-confessed “ginger nutcase” soon showed off her chops as an original artist – her debut single Devil on My Shoulder went straight into the Irish iTunes chart and she has gone from strength to strength since then.

She released her second EP, Lonely People, earlier this year and embarked on her first headliner tour of the U.S. with a folk pop sound that rubs shoulders with the likes of Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap.

Singing, songwriting, major guitar skills and a banging personality – nothing going for her really, has she?!
