The New Year Number Ones For The Last 15 Years Will Bring You Right Back

This has us feeling slightly old.

Her

2015 is finally upon us and looking back on the millennium, remembering the Y2K scare and the ‘noughties’, we simply didn’t know whether we’d ever make it this far.

Just for old time sake we decided to reminisce and seek out what we sang the January blues away with over the years.

The results, well, some of these are pretty embarrassing.

Here are the New Year number one hits for the last 15 years. Yes, we’re feeling a little old.

2000 – I Have A Dream

In the millennium, we had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun, as we sang along with the Westlife lads to ‘I Have a Dream.’

2001 – Stan

One that we won’t be ashamed of, Eminem and Dido were at the top of the charts with epic hit, Stan. Not a very cheery number to ring in the New Year with, but an amazing track all the same.

2002 – What If

Kate Winslet’s vocal chords impressed us that much back in 2oo2, the actress stayed at the top of the charts until the last week in January.

2003 – Lose Yourself

Eminem is back doing his thing as the New Year number 1 with ‘Lose Yourself’, however only for one week, until we was knocked of the top spot by newly formed Girls Aloud and their debut hit single, Sound of the Underground.

2004 – Leave Right Now

Pop Idol winner Will Young topped the charts for the entire month of January with this track.

2005 – Numb/Encore

This unlikely musical team up made for great ear candy. Linkin Park and Jay Z’s duet held the top position for the entire month of January. All together now, “I become so numb…”

2006 – That’s My Goal

Shayne Ward topped the charts with his undeniable beautiful vocal chords until the third week in February. That was some goal, Shayne.

2007 – A Moment Like This

Leona Lewis, the most successful X Factor winner to date, topped the charts for the first month of 2007.

2008 – When You Believe

Leon Jackson, remember him? The X Factor contestant who became BFFs with Michael Bublé on the, only to be sadly never heard of again. We miss you, Leon!

2009 – Hallelujah

Alexandra Burke didn’t like this song when she heard it first, but we’re sure after her chart success she grew quite fond of it.

2010 – The Climb

The X Factor Christmas number one reign into the New Year continue’s with Joe McElderry’s version of the Miley Cyrus hit.

2011 – When We Collide

“When we collide we come together…” was the only words anyone really knew of this Biffy Clyro song for X Factor’s Matt Cardle.

2012 – Cannonball

Damien Rice’s hit song was at the top of the charts thanks to X Factor winners, Little Mix. We’re not going to lie, although there’s no denying these girls can sing, we much prefer the original.

2013 – Impossible

James Arthur made X Factor history with this track, the most successful debut single in the show’s history.

2014 – Skyscraper

Last Year Sam Bailey stole the no.1 slot with her winning X Factor track.

2015 – Uptown Funk

We’ve welcomed in the New Year with Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, as Uptown Funk remains at the top of the charts for the beginning 2015. We can’t ever see ourselves being ashamed of this one.
