The Weeknd swept the board at the Billboard Music Awards, while there were some surprise performances.

The biggest stars of the music world joined together for the 2016 Billboard Music Awards which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The big winners on the night were The Weeknd, who walked away with eight awards in total, and Adele who claimed the biggest award of Top Artist, along with four other awards.

Some memorable performances on the night included Britney, Madonna and Kesha. Britney performed a medley of her biggest hits, costume changes and all, while Madonna paid tribute to the late great Prince and was joined on stage by Stevie Wonder for a very special rendition of Purple Rain.

Kesha also performed and got a standing ovation for her version of Bob Dylan’s It Ain’t Me Babe. Kesha almost didn’t get to perform when her label tried to block it over fears that she would ‘use the performance as a platform to discuss the litigation’.
