Tune Delivery Service – Mothers And Fathers Release New EP – Gaze

Estate pop has no curfew.

Ellen Tannam

Pamela Connolly and Dave Balfe aka ‘Mothers and Fathers’ are a working-class duo from North Dublin, whose new EP Gaze is out now for your listening pleasure.

It’s a compilation of four tracks within a genre they have aptly dubbed ‘estate pop’, and the project aims to critique the male gaze from the inside out, through lyrical examination and verdant pop melodies.

The duo are fueled by “the desire to reflect the beauty and horror of their immediate culture, the politics that exist both locally and globally and a pulsing on and off urge to escape, to get out of the head and away from the pale greys that blanket the estates.”

Connolly explains further: “It’s an admission of how I regularly objectify, perpetuate and embody learned traits I know to be negative in order to feel dominant and challenge maleness.”

The EP is a vibrant, thought-provoking and musically lush must-listen.

They are making a musical reflection of their immediate surroundings and worldview, and Ireland needs more music like this.
