Dublin Fire Brigade issue warning about a scam doing the rounds

Olivia Hayes

Be wary out there.

The next time you’re stalling it around town for a pint, don’t get conned.

Dublin Fire Brigade has issued a statement about a scam doing the rounds, where a man is going into pubs asking for money.

He claims to be part of Dublin Fire Brigade and is saying that the money is for a charity boxing match which is going in aid of Pieta House.

It is not. It’s going into his pocket.

Taking to Twitter, Dublin Fire Brigade wrote: “The man visiting Dublin pubs claiming to be a DFB firefighter and collecting for a charity boxing match is still doing the rounds. He claims to be collecting for @PietaHouse. THIS IS A SCAM.

“If approached let bar staff know, they’ll contact Gardaí. We don’t collect money in pubs.”

Many are taking to the comments section of the tweet, saying that they were duped by the man, and some even went back as long as two years ago.

Just to be wary the next time you’re out and about enjoying a pint – don’t be duped. Dublin Fire Brigade will never collect money in pubs.
