In 2017, attacks like these should simply not be happening.

Although the same-sex marriage referendum passed in 2015, we still live in a dangerously homophobic Ireland.

While the law changed, entitling the people of Ireland to marry whomever they choose, old-fashioned and bigoted attitudes still exist in regards to members of the LGBT community.

Two victims of these disgusting attitudes are Dancing With The Stars’ and Big Brother star Hughie Maughan and his fiancé Ryan Ruckledge.

This morning, Hughie shared a photo on Instagram of his scarred, bruised face and explained what happened while while on a night out in Dublin with Ryan.

Detailing not only what violence he encountered, Hughie shared how the group of homophobes hurt his fiancé also, revealing that the pair had to fight to get away from the guys threatening them.

Hughie wrote:

Can’t believe what happened last night, me and Ryan went to an awards in Dublin and ended up on a night out and a bunch of lads launched a homophobic attack on us .. I had to fight 4 guys getting beat up.”

On Hughie’s Facebook page, he shared that the perpetrators even went as far as breaking Ryan’s foot in the attack.

Homophobia is disgusting, and cannot and WILL NOT be tolerated.
