People are NOT happy this guy proposed to his girlfriend in the middle of her first marathon

Ouch.

A man has been branded selfish by social media users after he proposed to his girlfriend as she ran the New York City marathon.

Kaitlyn Curran was running her first ever marathon over the weekend when her boyfriend, Dennis Galvin, hopped over the barrier and popped the question.

The now-viral video shared by CBS has drawn plenty of criticism – mostly due to Dennis’ timing of the proposal.

People on Twitter were quick to brand the move “selfish” and began questioning why he couldn’t have waited until the finish line.

In fairness to the couple, Kaitlyn looked happy as the proposal was unfolding, said yes, and continued on the marathon.

So maybe she didn’t mind it too much.

And it sounds like things went over pretty well in the moment too – at least, according to Kathleen Figueroa, Dennis’ cousin.

She told CBS:

“She cried a little bit, said yes, hugged him and then said ‘OK, I have to go finish my race.'”

Kathleen also explained the reason that Dennis popped the question during the middle of the race, rather than the finish line.

She said that he had been hoping to propose a threw first stop of the race that was in Manhattan – and Mile 16 was located near the Queensboro Bridge, the one which connects Queens and midtown Manhattan.

Kaitlyn ended up finishing the marathon with a time of 4 hours and 24 minutes.
