If you’ve been keeping one eye on the news, you’ll have noticed that Greece is currently in financial crisis and looks set to default on its €1.6 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund.
While residents across the EU have been watching the developments unfold, one man decided to take things into his own hands.
Sick of the “dithering” of politicians, Thom Feeney decided to try and solve the problem the modern way: with a crowdfunding campaign.
The 29-year-old from York set up the page on IndieGoGo, offering a series of rewards including a postcard of Greek President Alex Tsipras, a feta and olive salad, a bottle of ouzo and a Greek holiday for two.
The idea behind the scheme is that the money raised will stimulate the Greek economy and give money directly to the country’s people.
It has attracted a massive response so far, with over 68,000 people donating €1,174,000 at the time of publication.
You can find a piece written by Thom on why he set up the campaign here or donate directly here.
