Trump v Biden: 8 accounts to follow to keep up to date on tonight’s US election

Jade Hayden

We’re here, guys – November 3. US election night.

What has been a tumultuous year is only set even more tumultuous as Joe Biden and Donald Trump go head-to-head tonight, to determine who will be the president of the United States for the next four years.

No matter the outcome, it’s certain to be an event of intensity, frustration, and wild emotion – and if you’re hoping to follow along online, there’s a few accounts you might want to hit up to ensure that you’re getting the news as it comes in.

This is them:

Jane Lytvyneko (@JaneLytv on Twitter)

Tonight’s going to be a big night for news – but it’s also going to be a big night for fake news.

Luckily for us, Buzzfeed’s Jane Lytvynenko will be on hand to decipher what’s true, what’s fake, and what’s not even worth considering. She’s also shared a handy Twitter thread for those hoping to notice misinformation themselves.

Jane has also encouraged users not to share anything unless they can be sure it’s true. Memes and WhatsApp threads might seem harmless enough, but they can contribute massively to the spread of unverifiable information.

Amy Walter (@amyewalter on Twitter)

Political commentator, journalist, and according to Twitter, cycling enthusiastic, Amy Walter doesn’t so much crunch the numbers as consider what they actually mean.

She’s been involved in a good amount of research among different voting groups over the past few weeks, so no doubt she’ll be sharing some crucial insight during tonight’s results.

Nate Silver (@natesilver538 on Twitter)

Silver may have predicted the 2016 election incorrectly, but he got it significantly less incorrect than almost everybody else.

Editor of political blog Five Thirty Eight and regular contributor to the NY Times, Silver is one for the number crunching and the predictions that follow – and he’ll be doing lots of that tonight over on Twitter.

The Washington Post (@washingtonpost on TikTok)

Because Gen Z cares about the election too, alright?

Providing a bit of a respite from the intense information overload that Twitter is famous for, The Washington Post are over on TikTok having a bit of a laugh, but also bringing you them cold, hard facts.

There’s no escape from the election tonight, guys. We may as well embrace it.

Molly Jong Fast (@mollyjongfast on Twitter)

Daily Beast editor Molly Jong Fast is here for the numbers – but she’s also here for the social media reaction, the breakdown, and who’s saying what about the social media reaction and the breakdown.

If the constant stream of Twitter’s timeline is proving a little too much for you, pop on over to Molly’s page. She’ll have navigated it all far better than you’d be able to do on your own.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC on Instagram and Twitter)

She may not be a political commentator, but she’s one of the most prolific and important voices in US politics today.

AOC will no doubt be filling her IG and Twitter account (also, @AOC) with instant reactions and comments to this evening’s vote. She’s also likely to share some words of support, in the event that things don’t go, er, exactly according to plan.

Kaitlan Collins (@kaitlancollins on Twitter)

Collins is CNN’s White House correspondent – and that should be enough to encourage a follow tonight.

She’s concise, she’s knowledgeable, and she’s no doubt gearing up for a solid night of tweeting. Follow along with her, why don’t you?

Angela Rye (@angelarye on Instagram)

CNN’s political commentator and self proclaimed “truth bringer,” Angela Rye isn’t just going to bring you the news – she’s also going to bring you voting information, stats, and the necessary perspective of the black female voter in the US.

She has, of course, also got Twitter, but Twitter can be a dreary place most of the time. Stick to Instagram as much as you can. You deserve it.
