Autumn Winter ’13: How To Wear The Lady Like Trend

A few tips on how to get one of the biggest trends of the season right

Cathy Donohue

Elegant sophistication is actually easy to achieve, contrary to popular opinion.

This is because it calls for simplicity, first and foremost. Rather than make the mistake of over accessorising and clashing patterns, think clean lines and structured separates.

The mainstay of a ladylike look is that instead of a seasonal trend, elegant dressing will last you year after year.

A pencil skirt, in black, grey or a chic understated print will become a staple piece in your ladylike wardrobe.

A tailored top or blouse is a necessity and a muted colour is usually best so you can mix it with items that you have already.

Pairing the pencil skirt with a tucked in tailored blouse will allow for a “cinched-in” effect, giving you an hourglass figure, the ultimate feminine shape.

Choose your footwear carefully for this look. Try stilettos, or if you’re on your feet all day, loafers are ideal for smart but stylish dressing.

Once you have the basic pieces sorted, then you can start to have fun with a trend like this.

Embellished vintage tops are reminiscent of the 20’s where everything was gloriously ladylike as Great Gatsby fans will recognise.

High street fashion chains have made this trend accessible and if you’re a closet magpie, you won’t be able to resist a little sparkle.

Tartan and polka dots dresses with pretty collars will have you channelling the prim and proper trend in next to no time.

High necked tops and pussy bow blouses are another easy way to perfect this style and a cropped bouclé jacket is an essential.

Pink is the colour of this fashion season and ties in perfectly with this look, the leather look skirt picture in the gallery above is pretty and feminine but the fabric keeps it modern and edgy.

Box bags and little clutches are the way to go when choosing accessories and for jewellery concentrate on one or two key pieces.

This particular trend works on the theory ‘less is more’ and the key pieces you choose will speak for themselves.
