This is so lovely.

Last night Kate Middleton joined her husband, and other senior members of the royal family, at a Diplomatic Reception in Buckingham palace.

Naturally, the Duchess looked absolutely beautiful in an embellished icy blue Alexander McQueen gown, fit for a royal.

Trust us, it was a real princess moment for Kate, she looked beautiful.

Kate paired the dress with a pair of drop pearl earrings and Queen Alexandra’s Wedding Necklace.

And as lovely as the dress was, Kate’s choice of tiara was what really caught our attention.

Why?

Well, the tiara in question used to belong to the late Princess Diana, Kate’s mother-in-law.

Called the “Lover’s Knot Tiara,” the piece has become a favourite of Kate’s, which is just really special.

It became one of Princess Diana’s most iconic pieces, the tiara is, in fact, a replica of an earlier tiara.

We had no idea!

The piece of bling that Kate wears was created for Queen Mary in 1914 by the House of Garrand from pearls and diamonds already owned by her family. So much history in one piece, incredible.

Queen Mary actually modelled the tiara after her grandmother Princess Augusta of Hesse’s headpiece, which was the original Lover’s Knot Tiara.

The original is believed to be part of the royal family’s private jewellery collection.

According to Town and Country, when Queen Mary commissioned the piece, she “sacrificed a tiara from her own jewellery collection, the Ladies of England Tiara, to make it.”

What a lovely tribute to Princess Diana, and other royals from history.
