Dublin Airport savagely takes down Luton Airport over “DART” tweet

“Didn’t Oscar Wilde say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness?”

Anyone who follows Dublin Airport on Twitter knows that that they like to have fun on social media.

While they always share important updates, they’re also unafraid to take the piss out of their rivals on the platform.

Their latest dig came at the expense of Luton Airport in the UK, who unveiled their latest airport rail system, which has a very familiar name.

Luton called their new train the DART, which stands Direct Air Rail Transit. Now this would be an inspired choice if it hadn’t already been taken by Europe’s most iconic rail line.

Luton tweeted an image of their DART undergoing testing and wrote: “We spotted the DART catching some rays during testing. It will soon be whisking you from Parkway station to the airport.”

Wasting no time, the Dublin Airport Twitter account jumped into action to protect our capital’s beloved transport system from this cruel imitation.

They re-tweeted the image and wrote: “Hey @IrishRail, didn’t Oscar Wilde say that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness?”

They continued: “The @LDNLutonAirport people are claiming we said it was ok to call their people mover DART. A) We didn’t & B) We’re not in charge of the world. (YET)”

Dublin Airport also pointed to the iconic status our DART enjoys in Irish life.

They wrote: “Anyway, it can’t be a proper DART until it has The Commitments singing ‘Destination Anywhere’ and it crosses the Liffey.”

The finished up with a hashtag, suggesting that their rivals across the sea are “Bleedin Chancers”.

Too right.

All in all, the takeaway from this entire exchange is to not mess with beloved Irish institutions or else you might be taken down a peg by the Dublin Airport Twitter account.
