Galway named as one of the 15 Best Holiday Destinations in the world for 2020

Also, the number one spot on the list? We want to go to there…

Just a few weeks after the city was named as one of the best places to visit in 2020 by the prestigious Lonely Planet, Galway has now been listed yet again, on another high profile list, by another high profile destination outlet.

Condé Nast Traveller are hugely regarded for their high-end travel tips, and they have announced their 15 best holiday destinations for 2020, and Galway has made it on to that list.

Galway will be 2020’s European Capital of Culture, and this title follows hot-on-the-heels of Galway’s designation as a 2018 European Region of Gastronomy, and when it came to the reasoning behind why they picked the city, Condé Nast Traveller had the following to say:

“With its glut of traditional pubs spilling out jaunty bodhrán and fiddle music, the bohemian city has spent 2019 testing new community heritage and arts projects, such as pop-up culture cafés and funambulism (tightrope-walking) workshops.

“But the best is yet to come in 2020, with some terrific events being rolled out across Galway’s pubs, hubs and beaches, including new artworks by David Best (of Burning Man fame) and a series of intimate readings of Homer’s Odyssey (using Emily Wilson’s English translation, the first by a woman) on Galway’s blustery beaches. Margaret Atwood will also take part in the city’s International Women’s Day celebrations in March.”
