Heading to Disney soon? Here are 5 things that are banned from the parks

Trine Jensen-Burke

Planning on going to Disney World or Disneyland this year?

Lucky you – it really is the happiest place on earth.

However, before you start putting that packing list together, you might be interested to know that Disney have recently made some restrictions as to what visitors are allowed to bring with them when entering the parks.

Here is what you need to know before planning your visit:

1. No oversized strollers

According to the Disney Parks blog, both Disneyland and Disney World will be getting stricter on stroller sizes – a change that will be rolled out on May 1st of this year. Specifically, children’s strollers can be no wider than 31 inches across, which is a five-inch reduction from the current 36-inch limit. The new changes are meant to ease congestion and help guest flow.

2. Goodbye smoking areas

As of May 1st, there will be NO smoking areas inside Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks, water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex or Downtown Disney District in California, a change I am sure many parents will applaud.

However, there will still be designated smoking areas outside the parks.

3. No folding chairs

Yes, we know waiting in line for the different Disney attractions can take its toll. However, unless you require a chair for medical or mobility reasons, folding chairs are on Disney’s restricted items list.

4. No selfie sticks

You might just have to resort to the old “sorry, do you mind taking a picture of us…” thing, because as of now, “hand-held extension poles for cameras and mobile devices” are prohibited at all Disney parks.

5. No glass containers

Yes, we agree that buying food inside Disney parks is expensive, but if you are bringing in your own snacks, just make sure they are in plastic or steel containers. The same goes for reusable water bottles or coffee cups. Glass containers are banned from the parks due to the risk of breakage. (Note that small glass containers for baby food are fine.)
