An interesting twist.

We all know that Ryanair is pretty much the go-to airline for everyone looking for a good deal.

However, it can be really annoying with the extra charges, like the cabin bag fee.

Well, a Spanish court has ruled that Ryanair’s policy of charging an extra fee for hand luggage is “abusive”.

And, it has ordered the airline to cancel the charge of the fee in Spain.

In a statement, the airline said:

“This ruling will not affect Ryanair’s baggage policy, either in the past or in the future, as it is an isolated case that misinterpreted our commercial freedom to determine the size of our cabin baggage.”

The case went to court after a woman travelling from Madrid to Brussels, was forced her to pay €20 to bring her small suitcase onto the plane.

The judge called the change in the baggage policy as abusive, saying that it “curtailed the rights that the passenger has recognised by law”, and declared it invalid in Spain.

The passenger in question was also seeking compensation, which she was denied by the court.

“The passenger suffered rage and powerlessness in having to pay the extra unforeseen cost at the time of boarding” however, the discomfort did not reach a level that would justify compensation.

It will be interesting to see if this sparks a trend.
