Travel beauty: I fly a lot and here are the 5 things you’ll ALWAYS find in my hand luggage

Flying can cause serious havoc with your skin.

Trine Jensen-Burke

I love to travel.

I mean; who doesn’t? New cities, new experiences, shopping, culture, food and fancy hotels – is it any wonder the majority of us love spending money on travel these days.

However, here is the bummer: cabin pressure, re-cycled air and a lack of oxygen inside the airplane cabin can all play havoc on your complexion, leaving your skin feeling dry, itchy, irritates and be more prone to sensitivity and break-outst too.

Yikes.

But help is at hand. All you need to do is make sure you pack the right products in your hand luggage, and you’ll be sure to land at your destination looking all dewy and glowy – even after a long-haul flight. Having tested a lot of products over the years (occupational hazzard, I guess), I am many I love and even rely on, but when it comes to flying, I never set foot on a flight without these five:

1. Avene Thermal Water Spray 50ml

This one is a cult product for a reason, and should really be a staple in your makeup bag already. A spritz of this will soothe dry and sensitive skin, and is the perfect way to keep your face feeling fresh during a long (or short) flight. It is also the perfect pick-me-up when you land, and you can use it during your holiday to refresh your face, set makeup or just cool your skin after cleansing. In other words; a must-buy.

2. Barechic Skin Illume Eye Serum

If you haven’t yet heard about Irish organic beauty brand Barechic Skin, mamas, it’s about time. Seriously; I am obsessed with every product in this gorgeous, handmade range, but if you put a gun to my head asking for my favourite, it would have to be the amazing Illume Eye Serum, a product I now refuse to live (or leave the house) without.

In fact; I will go as far as saying every mum should treat themselves to this skincare treat – the perfect pick-me-up for tired eyes. Luscious vitamin rich plant oils smooth and rejuvenate making the skin appear brighter and more luminous.

I love how you apply it with a rollerball, giving a cooling sensation to puffy, dry or tired eyes, meaning it is the perfect in-flight treat.

3. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Soothing Repairing Balm

I slather this gorgeous balm everywhere, from hands to elbows and even heels. Because it contains B5, which attracts water to improve hydration, it strengthen’s the skin’s barrier and it all sorts of perfect for use onboard plane, where the air is seriously moisture-sapping.

4. Burt’s Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm

This replenishing and hydrating natural lip balm is infused with the antioxidant goodness of pomegranate oil, making it the perfect choice to keep your lips soft and hydrated during your flight. Oh, and it smells seriously yummy too.

5. Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum

Expensive, but worth it, trust me. The most gorgeous treat for parched skin, this hydrating potion from Chanel boasts clever micro-droplets that disperse on the skin to quench dry patches, and the featherweight texture means it sinks in super-fast too. I always make sure to leave my skin care (only wearing mascara and maybe a lipgloss) when I fly, meaning I can apply and reapply this throughout the flight.
