An underrated gem: 5 unreal things to do in County Waterford

Anna Rourke

If you’re planning another staycation before the summer is out, you could do a lot worse than making your way to the Copper Coast.

Spots like Kerry, Cork and Clare get lots of love but if you’re after stunning scenery and fun things to see and do you won’t go far wrong here.

Here are some of our favourite spots and attractions around County Waterford.

Hike up to Coumshingaun Lough

Nestled in the Comeragh mountains, Coumshingaun is straight out of a Discover Ireland ad and truly has to be seen to be believed. The hike will take you a few hours and isn’t exactly a gentle stroll but the views will make it all worth it.

Take a seaweed bath in Ring

The ultimate stress-reliever. You’ll feel reborn after a seaweed soak and a massage at Solas na Mara, overlooking the harbour in Ring.

Get a breath of fresh air at Bunmahon Beach

This beautiful stretch of sand well worth a spin down to – it’d rival any beach in Ireland, even on a dull day.

Eat out in Dungarvan

The town has earned itself a reputation as a foodie haven in the past few years, so much so that you’ll struggle to choose just one place to eat. We recommend 360 Cookhouse or The Tannery for dinner and the Anchor Bar for a yummy lunch or brunch.

Walk the cliffs in Ardmore

Loved by bird-spotters, whale-watchers and regular Sunday-afternoon walkers, this short coastal loop can be done in under two hours and is as scenic as it gets. Finish off your stroll with a drink in the Cliff House Hotel’s Bar Restaurant – but be sure to book in advance.
