Why The Address is the perfect spot for a romantic central Dublin break away

Melissa Carton

Being a Dublin native I’ve never considered spending my night off at a Dublin hotel.

Typically when I think of having a breakaway I think of popping somewhere down the country or even abroad but never to my own hoofing ground.

Last night though my husband and I decided to spend our night off from the kids at The Address in Dublin city centre and it’s totally changed my mind on what I would consider a romantic break away.

Located in the historic North Star, The Address is luxury at its finest. I will admit I don’t know how many times I’ve gone through Connolly station (which is just across the road) and have never noticed that there was a four-star hotel facing it. I think it’s always the way. I grew up beside Guinness HQ but until I had friends over from abroad I’d never been on the tour.

The Address boasts some impressively lush suites and to be honest, it felt a bit like walking into the future. Everything in our room was controlled by touch panel screens including the lights, air conditioning, room service and even the curtains. Talk about your lazy breakaway.

The rooms are also personalised with each suite getting its own unique wifi password. My name was even on the TV screen when I walked through the door. Not going to lie I did have a bit of an ‘I feel a bit like a celebrity’ moment.

As well as their gorgeous rooms The Address also has a restaurant perfect for a romantic dinner for two.

The Cookhouse has a wide and varied menu with lots of traditional Irish dishes which seemed very popular with the American visitors dotted throughout the restaurant.

Not only was the food delicious it was also very reasonably priced considering the quality. I spent some time in London last year and was easily charged twice the price of food half as good.

We both ended up ordering beef dishes and it was some of the best beef I’ve ever had. I hardly had to use my knife the meat was so tender and the sauce and seasoning were divine.

I will also say that anywhere serving creme brulee will always have my heart. When I saw it on the menu, served with a cookie, I assumed that it would be a lot smaller.

The photo of the biscuit is pretty much to scale. I ended up having to pocket my cookie for later as after three fantastic courses I was absolutely stuffed to the gills.

The restaurant also serves a large selection of cocktails. Coffee with a little special splash is also available and I decided Bailey’s coffee would go very nice with my dessert.

After dinner, we went up to the rooftop lounge to take in the views. My husband’s family are originally from the Dublin 1 area and it was lovely to look out over the passing trains and Dublin skyline at the sunset.

I also think when you’ve lived somewhere your entire life you take for granted how beautiful it can be sometimes. I’ve often had friends from the States or Australia remind me how lucky I am to be from a city filled with castles and buildings dating back hundreds of years.

Having two kids, one still under the age of two, it’s not often we get to take our time eating dinner or relaxing afterwards so even though we didn’t travel further than a few postcodes it still felt like an amazing treat.

After we headed back to the room I let the rest of the workday fall off me by having a long soak in the bath made easier by the beautiful Voya toiletries range.

All rooms at The Address also come with robes, slippers, tea and coffee making facilities and luxury chocolates. Seeing as we had been camping only the weekend before, it certainly made for a welcome change.

Both my husband and I had work the following morning so we caught a quick breakfast in their underground parlour before heading off to catch the bus.

I would highly recommend The Address not just to couples looking for a breakaway in Dublin but anyone thinking of spending time in the capital.

It has everything you could want from a hotel and then some. There is also a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles served from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for all Address guests.

I will definitely be back at The Address at some point in the future and have already recommended it to friends travelling in from abroad next week. You can find out more information about The Address by visiting their website TheAddressDublin1.ie.
