5 things to keep in mind when narrowing down your honeymoon destination

Keeley Ryan

There’s a little more than eight months to go until my big day.

And we’re definitely ticking a lot of the ‘big’ items of the list – have someone in mind for flowers, catering and the cake; have my dress sorted; have the wedding venue sorted (and the reception one); invitations are on the way.

The one thing that we haven’t really been able to decide on is where we’re going for our honeymoon.

There’s been a lot of factors to take into consideration, even when trying to do something as simple as narrow down a destination (which, admittedly, is kind of where we’ve gotten stuck).

If, like us, you’re in the middle of trying to narrow down your own honeymoon plans here are 5 things to keep in mind while picking a destination.

  1. Give yourself a deadline to have it all figured out

It’s not the most romantic thing, but nobody wants to be trying to decide on their honeymoon with a week (or less) to go until their wedding day – so make sure to have a deadline for when you want the details set.

It doesn’t have to be the end-all-be-all – like, it can be moved around if you need a little more time – but having a goal date for when you want to have your honeymoon plans finalised will help you move on to the next planning stage.

  1. Set your budget (and only look at trips within the budget)

Again, not exactly the most romantic thing – but, unfortunately, a necessity. Especially since coming up with your dream honeymoon and then finding out it’s way out of budget would be less than ideal.

Make sure to factor in all of the aspects for your honeymoon: hotel, local restaurants, transportation, activities in the area, airfare – just so there’s no surprises down the line.

  1. Figure out what kind of honeymoon you want

Some people prefer a more beachy, relaxing-on-sun-loungers-all-day kind of vibe. But for others, it’s got to be a fast-paced and action-packed destination for their honeymoon.

Talk it over with your partner and make sure you’re both on the same page about what kind of atmosphere you want – it’ll make it so much easier.

  1. How long do you want to go away for – and how many places do you want to see

If you’re planning to head away for a longer period of time, make sure that you can actually get the time off well beforehand – that way you won’t be trying to squeeze a trip that’s meant to be two or three weeks into two or three days.

And also make sure to settle on how many places you actually want to visit: would you be more see on seeing all the sights you possibly can? Or would you prefer to spend it all soaking up the scenes in one location?

  1. Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten track

There are so many gorgeous honeymoon destinations throughout the world – and some are definitely more popular (and easy to find) than others.

But don’t be afraid to do a bit more digging, you may just find the perfect (and off-the-beaten-track) honeymoon destination of your dreams.
