Bride asks bridesmaid for extra €290 as her gift ‘wasn’t enough’ to cover wedding cost

'She said the cost of having my husband and I at her wedding was far more than the miserly gift we gave her.'

Wow. Just wow.

Weddings can be hella expensive, but you’d hardly go asking people for a specific amount of cash after the event had actually taken place?

That’s exactly what one woman did – to her own bridesmaid.

The bride got in touch with her friend while she was on honeymoon, not to thank her pal for everything she did for her but to request cash.

The bridesmaid was shocked, as she explained in a post on the That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming page on Facebook.

“I’ve just hung up the phone from a friend (ex friend now!!) whose wedding was a few weekends ago,” she wrote.

“She had a beautiful wedding, lots of guests, lots of wine and food. There were even fireworks when she and her new hubby left (via a yacht) to go on their honeymoon.”

Over the phone the bride told her friend that the gift she and her husband had given, worth £208, didn’t cover the £250-a-head the newlyweds had spent on their big day.

“She told me that the cost of having my husband and I at her wedding was far more than the miserly gift we gave her.”

A first, the bridesmaid thought she was joking but nope.

“She told me that it wasn’t enough… and so I owed her another £250 (€289) in cash.”

The bride also said she wouldn’t be counting the candle the bridesmaid had given as part of her gift as “she can’t do anything with it.”

Unsurprisingly the others in the Facebook group sided with the bridesmaid and thought the bride’s demand was outrageous.

We’d have to agree; demand money from us like that and you’d never hear from us again.
