Blessed day, I suppose…

The Handmaid’s Tale is a show about oppression, assault, and a society that vilifies women and treats them like criminals for not being fertile.

The series has acted as the inspiration for a lot of things since it first dropped on Hulu, including protests, demonstration, and general life in America.

And eh, this couple’s wedding photoshoot apparently.

Yep.

The shoot features the married couple in question, a series of Handmaids, and the notorious Hanging Wall – a spot reserved for the actual murder of those who go against the Gilead government.

So yeah, great spot to celebrate your wedding.

The image was shared on Twitter yesterday by a fairly confused user who goes by the name of Thackery Binx.

They posted a screenshot of one of the couple’s photos alongside the caption: “??????????????????????????????”

Same, mate.

“Praise be!” reads the post shared by the wedding photographer.

“If there’s any Handmaid’s Tale fans out there, you will know that most of it is filmed in Cambridge!

“So as fans of the show, it only seemed fitting for there to be some Handmaids in K&T’s wedding photos alongside the Hanging Wall in Mill Race Park.”

The post also included a series of laughing emojis, OK hands, and praising hands. Naturally.

The couple later responded to all of the inevitable backlash that they were receiving due to the photo, saying that they agreed that it was “disgusting” but that they were glad the image had generated some chat.

Well alright then.

“Take a step back and realise that you may not actually know the facts,” they wrote in the comments.

“This image was CREATED and put out by a pair of gender traitors, who are no strangers to many of subplots of oppression, violence, and inequality that run through Margaret’s brilliant work.

“What’s sad is that everyone is REACTING as expected – just like in Gilead.”

The comment ended by arguing that if the couple had have been surrounded by superheroes, there wouldn’t have been an issue.

Which, yeah, is fair but also has nothing to do with the image above.

Sure look, each to their own.
