They went viral earlier this month.
A newly engaged couple who were at the centre of an online appeal after the woman’s engagement ring dropped down a grate in New York City have been reunited with the band.
The pair, named by the NYPD as John and Daniella, sparked a Twitter-wide search across the globe after the police department shared CCTV footage of them trying to retrieve the ring.
The footage went viral on December 1, with the police asking anyone who recognised the couple (or the ring, which they shared in the Twitter thread) to get in contact.
WANTED for dropping his fiancée’s ring in @TimesSquareNYC!
She said Yes – but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate. Our @NYPDSpecialops officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple. Help us find them? 💍 call 800-577-TIPS @NYPDTIPS @NYPDMTN pic.twitter.com/tPWg8OE0MQ— NYPD NEWS (@NYPDnews) December 1, 2018
Within 24 hours, they said that the couple – who are believed to be from the UK originally – were “back in their home country”. However, due to how quickly the story went viral, John and Daniella had gotten in touch and the NYPD were making arrangements to get their ring back to them.

And then on Thursday, the pair were finally reunited with the ring – and all thanks to Ellen DeGeneres.
The chat show host introduced the couple to the police officers who found the ring, so that they could be reunited with the lost gem.
During their time on the show, John explained that he had popped the question in Central Park earlier that day. They had been walking back from a Broadway show when John took Daniella’s hand, accidentally knocking the ring – which was a little too big – off.
Once they were reunited with the special band, John got back on one knee to propose – and an emotional Daniella said ‘yes’, as the audience applauded.
