The 20-year-old made the news public by tweeting about it but it has also been confirmed by an Eastenders spokesperson who told Digital Spy: "We can confirm that Sam is leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future."
Sam Strike (Johny Carter) is leaving Albert Square
Some of Sam's notable storylines include coming out to his parents, Linda and Mick, and a plot where he was at The Albert with Sharon when it was attacked by a group of thugs.
Sam is the second member of the Carter family to confirm his departure from the show. It was recently announced that Timothy West, who plays Johnny's grandfather, Stan Carter, is to leave Eastenders after the conclusion of a terminal cancer storyline.
