And what a comeback indeed. Today, Sam Smith dropped the music video to his brand new track Too Good At Goodbyes and we are reaching for the tissues.
Like all of Sam's music, the song is both soulful and based on his past experiences. This time he sings about shitty relationships and building up a resilience to getting dumped or ghosted.
"But every time you hurt me, the less that I cry/And every time you leave me, the quicker these tears dry," he sings.
Describing the latest album in a recent interview with BBC's Zane Lowe, Smith said: "There's about four songs that are about me, and the rest are about different things and different people in my life and what they've gone through."
Excited to be back making music once again, last week the 25-year-old released a statement on Twitter, thanking fans for their patience and space to leave him write and create something new. He said: "I have missed you all so desperately and a day hasn't gone by when I haven't been looking at all your comments and dreaming of singing with you again."
