Here’s The Natural Way To Make Your Wax Less Painful

Let’s be honest, it’s never going to be pleasant.

If you’re a fan of a smooth bikini line but hate the burning sensation of a wax, you’ll usually book a salon appointment with a touch of dread in the pit of your stomach.

Whether it’s the sting, the after-burn, or waiting in anticipation for the strip to rip off, getting a wax is never going to be pleasant.

Now there’s a set of steps that can help you make that wax-on, wax-off an overall easier experience (we won’t say pain-free because let’s not lie)…

First steps include exfoliating and moisturising your whole body to remove layers of dry, dead skin which not only makes waxing less painful, but can help prevent ingrown hairs.

Experts recommend you follow-up your exfoliation with block booking sessions. While your hair may grow in cycles, you might not be as good at keeping your appointments in check. By block booking three or four waxes every four to six weeks, you’re guaranteed to stay hair-free for longer while building up your resistance to the pain.

Just make sure your timing doesn’t coincide with your time of the month.

Just before and just after your period, your skin in the bikini region is more sensitive. Book an appointment in the middle of your menstrual cycle to ensure your pain threshold is at its highest.

Finally, it’s all down to your strip (the option you choose to be precise)…

While hot wax stiffens on the skin and is peeled off, strip wax is removed with a piece of cloth. The former is favoured for being less painful as it clings to the hair rather than your skin. Strip wax is better for removing finer hair though, so it really is down to your hair growth.

Remember, if you suffer from sensitive skin, or find waxing extremely painful, talk to your salon who can recommend the best treatment option to suit your needs.
