Here’s Why You REALLY Need to Wash Your Face Every Morning

Your night-time cleanse isn’t enough.

We know the importance of never going to bed with our make-up in tact, but how many people wash their face every morning?

Surely, it’s still clean from the night before?

According to dermatologist Melanie Palm, we should be washing our faces twice a day to avoid the build up of dead skin cells, oil and even small skin mites in your pores after a night’s sleep.

*We’ll give you a minute to be horrified.*

Speaking about the transfer of dead skin and mould onto your face during the night, Palm explains:

“Dead skin cells and allergens may collect on your pillowcase and be transferred to the facial skin throughout the night.

“Circulated air (from you air conditioner or forced heated air) can also kick up dust, mould and other environmental irritants that may collect on facial skin overnight.”

What might be even more disturbing is the news that failing to cleanse your skin could result in skin mites growing in our pores.

Palm adds:

“For sensitive skin types in adults, particularly those with rosacea, there is a small skin mite that grows within our skin pores called Demodex.

“Properly cleansing our pores in the morning removes the dirt and debris that this skin critter lives off of and decreases the number of them living on our skin.”

So we’ll just be sure to add a morning scrub of our face to our daily routine along with brushing our teeth and not making our bed.
