We have all heard of the wondrous Cocoa Brown tan, right?
Well, if you haven’t… where have you been hun?
That iconic pink bottle is everywhere, from Penneys to your local pharmacy (and beyond).
But have you ever wondered where the name “Cocoa Brown” came from?
I recently sat down for a lengthy chat with the lovely Marissa Carter, who shared loads of interesting stories about her life.
One that stood out to me was the way she ended up naming her tanning product.
Marissa explained that she had been over and back with the manufactures for ages, but she just couldn’t get the colour for her tan correct.
And then came the light bulb moment…
“I was on the phone to the manufacturer and I said listen the tan that you’re after sending me it’s still far too orange.”

“I need it to be like a rich cocoa brown colour. When I got off the phone I had scribbled down the words ‘cocoa brown’.”
And sure, the rest is history, isn’t it?
