Permanent hair removal for fair haired and dark skinned folk is here

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Hair removal has come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years, but if you have dark skin or fair hair, chances are you’ve probably been deemed unsuitable for treatments like laser.

The problem has always been that most lasers are most effective on light skin and dark hair, so if you don’t fit the bill, it’s back to waxing and shaving for you.

Now however, a Dublin medi-spa has taken pity on the rest of us poor hirsute wannabe-customers, introducing a new treatment called Super Hair Removal, which works even faster than laser and with zero pain.

The Buff Day Spa on South King Street is now home to the first machine of its kind in Ireland from Cosmedico, delivering Super Hair Removal that works on all skin types and all hair colours.

Here’s the science bit: Both laser and IPL use high amounts of energy in short bursts, sending a large amount of heat into the skin to target the melanin in the hair. Research has shown that a slower but longer heating process is considerably more effective for permanent hair removal than high but short levels of energy into the skin.

Using SHR technology to heat the area more slowly but for longer targets the hair melanin as well as the tissue of the stem cells, giving permanent hair removal and allowing for the successful treatment of blonde hair.

Not only does the treatment work on all ethnicities, it’s also effective on tanned skin, so it can be used at any time of the year.

Prices start at a very reasonable €150 for a full course of facial hair treatments, check out the website for the full list and prepare to ditch your trusty razor for once and for all.
