What’s In My Beauty Bag – Blogger Jessika Banaghan Shares Her Secrets

Attention all beauty obsessives!

Cathy Donohue

Pretty packaging, hero products, must-have purchases…make-up is a subject we could spend hours chatting about.

Everyone has their tried and tested buys and in a bid to find out more about the best way to get bang for your buck, we decided it was time to call in a little expertise.

Beauty bloggers make it their business to trial run products and are up to date with the latest releases before they even hit the shelves.

In a new weekly feature, we’re going to quiz beauty bloggers on their make-up essentials and why these are the products they return to time and time again.

This week, we’re chatting to Jessika Banaghan of Chaos Wearing Lipgloss.

Hi, I’m Jessika and I like romantic walks down the make-up aisle of any shop or pharmacy. From a young age, I was never really into make-up.

However, when I started college, I started to be more adventurous with make-up. After blogging about beauty, I became more interested and now I have more make-up than clothes in my room!

I’m not a make-up artist or trained in anything related to beauty, I’m just trying different things and sharing them with others.

Here are some of the products that are firm favourites in my beauty bag.

The Primer

It is important to wear a primer to help your make-up last. If you’re like me and tend to sweat a lot during the day and you don’t want to keep topping up, make sure to use a primer before applying your make-up. The primer I am currently using is the Protect Face Primer SPF 30. It’s the ideal size for your make-up bag while on the go.

It has helped to keep my foundation set for the whole day. Primer with an SPF is an extra bonus, as it will protect your face. It is cream based and only a pea-size amount is needed to cover your face.

The Foundation

When it comes to foundations, I like to change it every few days. It is always important to try find a shade to suit your skin.

I am currently loving the Fuschia Make-up Perfect Skin Foundation (please note I have the older packaging). This foundation has not failed me and sits perfectly on my skin. I have used it 3-4 times a week since I got it in March and it’s not about to run out anytime soon.

The Mascara

If you follow my blog, you know my favourite mascara of all time has to be Seventeen Dolled Up. I have been buying this Mascara for the past 2-3 years. It gives me fine long lashes and the brush has thin bristles to help avoid the mascara clumping. The brush is also curved for the perfect curl, so you won’t need to use an eyelash curler.

The Setting Spray

Sometimes primer isn’t enough to set my makeup and I have recently started using setting spray to ensure my make-up lasts. I am currently using Fuschia setting spray. All you need is one or two sprays of it, an arm’s length from your face, to help stop your makeup sliding off like melted ice-cream.

The Lipsticks/ Lipglosses

My blog has the word “lipgloss” in it for a reason- I LOVE them. I never stick to the same lipglosses or lipsticks as I love to try different shades and textures. At the moment, my go-to lipstick is MAC Viva Glam “V Lustre”. I am also a big lover of IsaDora’s Matte Lipsticks in colours Candy Store and Naked.

The Eyeshadows

I almost have every colour eyeshadow under the sun, but to be honest, I don’t use all of them that much. I usually go for a brown smokey eye if I want to have coloured lips that pop. The shades I use to achieve my smokey eye are MAC “Shroom”, “Expresso” and “Embark”. However, I am a huge fan of the Naked Palette 3 as I am a sucker for pink and cream shades.

The Eyeliner

To be honest, I’m not a big lover of eyeliner. I still can’t master the wing liner so I keep it skinny and simple. I’ve started to use NYX Summer Skinny Pencil and it’s so easy to apply to my lash-line. If I do feel adventurous and try a winged look, I rely on Benefits ‘They’re Real!’ eyeliner.

The Highlighter, Blusher and Bronzer

For the “Kim-K” contoured look, there is one holy grail item I trust and that is IsaDora’s Face Sculptor. This product has is 3 items in 1 and is perfect for girls on the go. The soft texture isn’t harsh on the skin and it light so you can go from a day to night look instantly.

The Brow Filler

Last, but not least, the brows. I’ve tried so many products, some suited me and some didn’t. I’m lucky enough to have naturally thick shaped eyebrows. I do care for them by ensuring any product I apply to them doesn’t cause me to lose hair. At the moment, I am using Sleek Make-up’s Brow Perfecter Gel in Dark Brown. A gel seems to stay on all day so that is a plus for me.
