5 things to know about the book Hidden Bodies, the sequel to You

Keeley Ryan

You season two

There’s not long left to go until season two of You hits Netflix.

But before Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley took of the role of the murderous bookseller Joe Goldberg, You was a book – and yeah, it was even grislier than the TV show.

The book was followed up by Hidden Bodies, volume two in the You series, in 2016 – around a year and a half after the original book was published.

And while season two of You has been confirmed to be deviating from the books in parts (like with that Candace reveal at the end of season one), Hidden Bodies may give you a good sense of where the story’s going to go next.

Here are five things to know about the book Hidden Bodies, the sequel to You.

Joe has a new girlfriend

And no, we’re not talking about Love.

The former bookseller-turned-murderer is going out with a girl named Amy who, as it turns out, has some secrets of her own (because doesn’t everybody in these books?).

It is Amy who initially sparks Joe’s move to the west coast (and not in the same kind of way he pursued Beck), but it isn’t long until his mission has changed.

…and then he finds Love

No, really, that’s her time.

Soon after moving to Los Angeles, Joe meets Love Quinn and her brother Forty – the children of tennis-obsessed millionaires who own The Pantry, a grocery store chain that Joe frequents.

And while things seem to be going well enough for them at the start – and Joe finds himself fitting into Love’s life better than he first thought he could – it isn’t long until things start to go sideways…

There’s more murder and mayhem than ever before

Yeah, there was a lot of death in You. And, we’ll admit it: we’re still not over how Beck met her end in the book – it was brutal.

But Joe takes things to a whole new level in Hidden Bodies, as he tries to get to the bottom of his mission in Los Angeles.

And lets not forget about that mug that he left at the Sallinger house – because he definitely hasn’t…

It has a slower build up

Joe’s move to Los Angeles from New York brings plenty of new characters to the forefront of the story – although, that doesn’t mean those from You are quite gone (we’re looking at you, Dr. Nicky).

But the general build-up of Hidden Bodies – and Joe’s murderous tendencies – is a much slower pace than it was in You.

Once the drama begins, though, you won’t be able to put the book down.

Joe’s story isn’t over

Hidden Bodies ends on a kind-of-cliffhanger/reveal that, if we’re being totally honest, made our jaws hit the floor (don’t worry, we’re not going to spoil it here).

And, thankfully, it looks like we’re going to be seeing more of Joe – or, well, reading more about him.

Author Caroline Kepnes’ Twitter bio confirms that a third Joe book is on the way, although there’s no date specified yet.
