Dublin Murders is almost here.
The TV adaptation of Tana French’s In The Woods and The Likeness, which stars Killian Scott and Sarah Greene as Rob Reilly and Cassie Maddox, hits telly screens on October 16.
But if you can’t wait for the psychological thriller to begin, here are seven Tana French novels you can check out while you wait.
Faithful Place
The course of Frank Mackey’s life was set by one defining moment when he was nineteen. The moment his girlfriend, Rosie Daly, failed to turn up for their rendezvous in Faithful Place, failed to run away with him to London as they had planned.

Meanwhile, Scorcher’s personal life is pulling for his attention. The case hitting the news sent his sister, Dina, off the rails once again – and she’s resurrecting something that Scorcher thought he had tightly under control: what happened to their family, one summer at Broken Harbour, back when they were children. The neat compartments of his life are breaking down, and the sudden tangle of work and family is putting both at risk . . .
The Secret Place
Detective Stephen Moran hasn’t seen Holly Mackey since she was a nine-year-old witness to the events of Faithful Place. Now she’s sixteen and she’s shown up outside his squad room, with a photograph and a story.
Even in her exclusive boarding school, in the graceful golden world that Stephen has always longed for, bad things happen and people have secrets. The previous year, Christopher Harper, from the neighbouring boys’ school, was found murdered on the grounds. And today, in the Secret Place – the school noticeboard where girls can pin up their secrets anonymously – Holly found the card.
Solving this case could take Stephen onto the Murder squad. But to get it solved, he will have to work with Detective Antoinette Conway – tough, prickly, an outsider, everything Stephen doesn’t want in a partner. The Likeness
Still traumatised by her brush with a psychopath, Detective Cassie Maddox transfers out of the Murder Squad and starts a relationship with fellow detective Sam ONeill. But she’s too badly shaken to commit to him, or to her career.
When Sam calls her to the scene of his new case, she is shocked to find that the murdered girl is her double. What’s more, her ID says she is Lexie Madison – the identity Cassie used, years ago, as an undercover detective.
With no leads, no suspects and no clues to Lexie’s real identity, Cassie’s old boss spots the opportunity of a lifetime: send Cassie undercover in the dead girl’s place, to tempt the killer out of hiding to finish the job.
The Trespasser
This is the case she imagined. Precision-cut and savage, lithe and momentous. Antoinette Conway is still on the Murder squad, but only just. She’s partnered up with Stephen Moran now, and that’s going well – but the rest of her working life isn’t.
Antoinette doesn’t play well with others, and there’s a vicious running campaign in the squad to get rid of her. She and Stephen pull a case that at first looks like a slam-dunk lovers’ tiff.
All she and her partner have to do is track down Lover Boy and bring him in. Then it’ll be back to business as usual, watching from a distance as the real detectives go up against the psychopaths. Except when Antoinette takes a good look at the victim’s face, she realises she’s seen her somewhere before. And suddenly the conviction that there’s a different answer takes her breath away.
The Wych Elm
One night changes everything for Toby. He’s always led a charmed life – until a brutal attack leaves him damaged and traumatised, unsure even of the person he used to be. He seeks refuge at his family’s ancestral home, the Ivy House, filled with memories of wild-strawberry summers and teenage parties with his cousins.
But not long after Toby’s arrival, a discovery is made: a skull, tucked neatly inside the old wych elm in the garden.
As detectives begin to close in, Toby is forced to examine everything he thought he knew about his family, his past, and himself.
In The Woods
