Dolly Parton is working on her first ever novel

Sarah McKenna Barry

Definitely one to watch out for.

Country music star and all-round icon Dolly Parton will team up with author James Patterson to publish her first ever novel.

The book, which is titled Run, Rose, Run, is set to be released in March 2022.

As well as the novel, Dolly will release an accompanying music album.

Sharing the good news on Twitter, Dolly wrote: “I’ve combined my love of storytelling and books with the release of #RunRoseRun, a novel I’ve co-authored with @JP_Books! Pre-order your copy today.”

Run, Rose, Run follows the story of a young woman who moves to Nashville to embark on a music career, but the inspiration for her songs comes from a much darker place.

In a statement, Dolly said: “I cannot be more excited about the release of my very first novel Run, Rose, Run with the great James Patterson.

“I also have a new album to go along with the book. All new songs were written based on the characters and situations in the book.

“I hope you enjoy the book and the songs as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it all together.”

James Patterson, the bestselling author of the Alex Cross and the Women’s Murder Club series, was equally excited about the release of Run, Rose, Run.

He said: “It’s an honour – and a hell of a lot of fun – to work with the inimitable Dolly Parton, whom I’ve long admired for her music, her storytelling, and her enormous generosity.

“The mind-blowing thing about this project is that reading the novel is enhanced by listening to the album and vice versa.”

He added: “It’s a really unique experience that I know readers (and listeners) will love.”

Patterson is no stranger to collaborating with big names. He previously worked with Bill Clinton on two novels.

Run, Rose, Run comes out on 7 March 2022.
