There are some books you'll read that will stick with you long after you read the final page.
Emily Henry's novels have always been my favourite, but her novel People We Meet On Vacation is the one that I think about all the time.
People We Meet on Vacation follows long-distance best friends Poppy and Alex, who reunite every year to travel together. They've been friends since college, but a fall-out on one of their annual week-long trips sees the pair lose touch for years.
Years later, Poppy is still thinking about and missing Alex, so she takes a chance and asks him on one final trip, and much to her surprise, he actually agrees.
A trip full of ups and downs awaits the pair, but will their friendship make it?
You can watch the trailer below:
It's been years since I first read the book, but it's one I just can't get out of my head, especially now that I know a movie version of the bestselling book is on the way.
It came as no surprise to see Netflix swipe up the film rights to this novel, but I was hesitant about one of my all-time favourite reads being turned into a film.
Netflix adaptations have let down many readers in the past, but I have high hopes for the People We Meet On Vacation film, and that's solely down to the flawless casting.
Alex and Poppy are such beloved characters, so the pressure to cast them right must have been immense, but I couldn't think of anyone more perfect than Tom Blyth and Emily Bader.
As soon as the official casting was announced, I knew we were in capable hands.
Fans of the novel praised the team behind the film for finding the perfect Poppy and Alex, and from the look of the first teaser trailer, we're in for a real treat.
I believe the pair could become the new Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, and may finally save the rom-com genre.
And Blyth agrees, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor recently told People that his co-star could be the next Meg Ryan.
"She's got that quality where she can be going off the rails, and you still are just so enamored by her. She's so endearing and she's so playful within the language of the script, and I think she's going to really do justice to the character."
Knowing the film version of this friends-lovers book is on the way cements my belief that the rom-com genre will be better than ever in 2026. Tom Blyth as our new leading man and Emily Bader as our leading lady is a true recipe for a rom-com masterpiece.
I believe, and hope, that this film could end up being as iconic as When Harry Met Sally.
Despite being the perfect summer story, People We Meet On Vacation won't be released until January 2026.
Netflix has confirmed that the film will land on the streaming service on January 9th, 2026.
We may have quite a while to wait, but it gives you plenty of time to read the novel before the film is released.
