Review: Harlan Coben is better than ever with his new thriller The Boy From The Woods

Harlan Coben is better than ever with his new thriller The Boy From The Woods.

Thirty years ago, a young boy was found in the woods in New Jersey. With no memory of how he got there or who he is, everyone took to calling him Wilde.

Now a former soldier and security expert, he’s happy to live off the grid – relying solely on himself, and staying away from society.

But one day, TV lawyer Hester Crimstein – who knows Wilde well, after he grew up with her son – calls on him for help: a young girl named Naomi has gone missing.

Hester’s grandson, Matthew, asks for her her help to find out what happend – and she, in turn, enlists Wilde and his unique skill set to help with the search.

But even he can find no trace of her. One day passes, then a second, then a third.

On the fourth, a human finger shows up in the mail. And now Wilde knows this is no game. It’s a race against time to save the girl’s life – and expose the town’s dark trove of secrets.

A compelling mystery that will have you hooked from the first chapter, The Boy From The Woods is one of those books that you’ll want to read in one sitting – or, at least, in as few sittings as possible.

While the book initially begins as a missing person investigation, it quickly turns into a lot more than that as the twists and turns start to unravel.

Even once the *big* reveal happens, Coben still makes sure that there’s one more surprise in store for readers (or two, or three – we’re not going to spoil it for you).

Each one of the characters is so carefully crafted – whether they’re the central ones or the supporting characters – which, partnered with the fast-paced and gripping plot progression, makes it a book that you won’t forget any time soon.

Plus, Hester is just one of the best fictional characters in a very long time. And since she’s given a more central role in The Boy From The Woods, what’s not to love?
