We’ve all wanted to impress as the perfect candidate for a dream job, but be warned potential employers are onto you…

According to a new Employment Market Monitor for Cpl, a survey of Irish employers found that 55% of job candidates were caught lying on their CVs.

Cue an awkward interview panel…

Employers believed they spotted lies on candidate’s CVs with exaggerated job titles, expertise and even qualifications.

So how are they catching onto those fabricated career coups?

Well, your online paper trail (aka LinkedIn profile) have caught out candidates, while others were caught out when asked to produce copies of qualifications to their interview round.

In more positive news, 40% of employers are seeing the return of candidates from abroad, with workers from UK, Australia and Canada rejoining the Irish workforce.

Still on sunnier shores with dreams of coming home?

According to the survey, most employers believe that international experience gained by candidates added to their credentials, with 63% hiring the returning workers for growth in 2015.

Unfortunately, you may still have to prove yourself once you land that job. The survey found that 25% of employers feel that candidates aren’t as capable as those hired 10 years before, citing a sense of entitlement amongst Generation Y.

So what are their top tips to get ahead of the pack?

Apparently grads need to drop their txt spk in formal communication and learn more transferrable skills from the classroom.
