Another one.

When Vicky Phelan promised Charlie Bird that she would join him on his charity climb of Croagh Patrick, well known Irish celebrities began to sign on, one by one.

Charlie and his wife Claire first brought up the idea to help raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease and other terminal illnesses, vowing for the climb to take place on April 2nd.

The broadcaster was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2021 and opened up about his condition on the Late Late Show, describing it as a “nightmare.”

Thankfully still able to walk, Charlie and an abundance of other celebrities will be. making the climb, and the latest to join them is none other than Imelda May.

The singer has vowed to walk alongside Charlie in spirit and will find something else to climb as she’s not in the country for it, even if it’s a “stairwell.”

Imelda is starting her tour on the same day in Wales so won’t be able to make it in person, and announcing her joining, Charlie shared a video on Twitter saying: “Another great singer joining to support Climb With Charlie.

“And yes we have many more surprises on the way. Thanks to all of them for extending the hand of friendship. And thanks to yes, the tens of thousands of people across the country who are supporting me.”

Charlie’s illness has now affected his speech, and he has teamed up with the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House to make the climb an official event.

Last month it was announced that Matt Molly would also be joining Charlie, bringing some entertainment along as he’ll be playing his flute on the way up.

Charlie announced on Twitter: “Guess who is also going to climb Croagh Patrick with me on the 2nd of April, you’ve guessed right …YES the great Matt Molly. He is going to bring his flute with him as well.

“And with a smile on his face he said he might bring a few of his musical buddies up the Reek with him.”

Along with Imelda and Matt, Vicky Phelan, Daniel O’Donnell and Ryan Tubridy have also agreed to join him, as well as Joanne O’Riordan also pledged to join.
