Yesterday afternoon, Ant McPartlin was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The 42-year-old star was involved in a three-car smash: his Mini hit two other vehicles in south-west London.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the star has now been released after his arrest for drink driving, but a full investigation will follow.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “[Ant Mcpartlin] was taken to a south London police station for questioning and has since been released under investigation.”

Inquiries into the incident will continue, the spokeswoman added.

Various reports are stating that Ant spent 10 hours in police custody, and only left the station at around 2am this morning.

Police confirmed that a number of people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and a child was brought to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

A witness told The Sun that in the aftermath: “Ant looked like his world had just ended.”

The same publication added that Mr McPartlin got “agitated and argumentative with a policewoman as she arrested him.” At least six police cars attended the scene and it is believed the TV presenter immediately failed a breath-test.

Last summer, Ant attended a rehab treatment facility for drink and prescription drug addictions. He announced earlier this year that he was divorcing his wife of 11 years, Lisa.
