A legendary pairing.

Elton John has teamed up with Britney Spears on his latest single for their much anticipated single Hold Me Closer.

The song mixes his 1971 hit Tiny Dancer with the 1992 song The One, as well as aspects of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart and is Britney’s first release in six years.

Speaking about the collaboration, Elton said he hopes it will be a hit to help restore Britney’s confidence in the music industry.

He told The Guardian: “It’s hard when you’re young. Britney was broken. I was broken when I got sober. I was in a terrible place.

“Now, I’ve got the experience to be able to advise people and help them because I don’t want to see any artists in a dark place.

“A lot of artists, you’d think they’d have a lot of self-esteem, but they don’t, and that’s why we go on stage and we get the applause, and then we come off stage and we’re back to square one.”

This is Britney’s first release since her 13-year conservatorship ended after her father had controlled her freedom and finances.

Elton said the idea of including Britney on the track came from his husband David Furnish following the success of the collaboration with Dua Lipa on Cold Heart.

Adding that Britney had to approve the music before it was released, Elton said there was a “lot of fear” as she has been “betrayed so many times” and “hasn’t really been in the public eye officially for so long.”

Reassuring her throughout the entire process that all will be okay, he acted as a mentor, hoping it will “restore her confidence in herself to get back into the studio, make more records, and realise that she is bloody good.”
