Jennifer Lopez discusses the one role she really regretted turning down

Rory Cashin

The actress who landed the role went on to be nominated for an Oscar.

Even now, as the dust has settled from the Oscar nominations, fans are livid – LIVID! – that Jennifer Lopez didn’t get an Best Supporting Actress nomination for her turn in Hustlers (which, to be fair, she killed it in).

She still has the Superbowl Half Time to look forward to, so she won’t be left wanting for work.

However, over the years, Lopez has reportedly turned down some major roles, including parts in The Green Mile (it went to Patricia Clarkson), Hitch (Eva Mendes), Jerry Maguire (Renee Zellweger), Madagascar (Jada Pinkett-Smith), and Hollow Man (Elisabeth Shue).

Despite all those, though, there is still one role that she turned down that haunts her to this day.

Lopez told Vanity Fair the following:

“There was a movie called Unfaithful. And it was offered to me and the script, for me, wasn’t all the way there. I should have known that [director] Adrian Lyne was going to kill it, but I didn’t. Diane Lane was so perfect for it, and it was obviously meant to be her, but when I think about that… I want to literally, like, shoot my toe off. I do.”

Would Lopez still have been nominated if she’d got the role instead of Lane? Who knows. Lane went on to lose to Nicole Kidman in The Hours, but if you ask us, Unfaithful is the better movie of the two. Who still remembers The Hours aside from Kidman’s prosthetic nose? Nobody.

In some more good news, director Lyne (who hasn’t made a movie since Unfaithful came out in 2002) is currently working on his new project, which is another erotic thriller! We do a full breakdown on Deep Water here, but it will star Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas (Knives Out, No Time To Die), and it is due out in Irish cinemas this November.
